Fair Debt
Collection Act - If you’re in debt, and something about the way that you’re
being treated by your creditor is making you uncomfortable, you should take a
look at the Fair Debt Collection Act. This act is a federal law in the United
States that says exactly what a creditor is and isn’t allowed to do while it’s
attempting to collect on debts that are owed to it. If you find that anything
your creditor is doing goes against this act, you should definitely report the
infractions – both for your own good, and so that other people won’t be
needlessly harassed by the same creditor. |

One major issue that is addressed by the Fair Debt Collection
Act is that harassment is against the law. In other words,
while your creditor is allowed to contact you on the subject
of the debt that is owed, constant calls or harassment can be
met with punishment, fines, and even the cancellation of debts
that are owed toward that creditor.
If you are feeling threatened by things that your creditors
are saying to you, then you are being harassed, and you can
seek legal help, and you can file to keep your creditors from
bothering you all the time. This also includes being contacted
constantly about your debt by your creditors – basically any
unreasonable action that is disrupting your life or making you
feel threatened. |

Another major part of the Fair Debt Collection Act is
that your creditors are not allowed to lie about how
much you owe. If it always seems like the amount of
money you owe to your creditor is changing, then you
should probably check to see if they’re doing anything
illegal. You have the right to be told exactly how
much you owe, fees included, if the creditor is trying
to collect money from you. This way, you can find out
how much you owe and won’t have to worry about extra
charges after you think that you’ve paid everything
off.
It’s important to check the Fair Debt Collection Act
if you think that any of your rights are being
infringed upon. That way, your creditors can be held
liable for the laws that they’re breaking. |
